Authoritative Leadership Style

Thank you for taking the Leadership Styles Questionnaire. An authoritative leadership style is a direct and hands-on style of leadership. Leaders who use this style are often direct and results motivated. While this style focuses on getting stuff done, it often loses its impact on those who don't have their needs met on the team.

Strengths

  • You thrive in chaos. You are great at communicating to get the team back on track when things are going haywire.

  • You are able to clearly see how to move from point A to point B to hit goals.

  • You are the best at obtaining results and getting things done.

  • You go to the goal and people will follow you.

  • You are great at adapting and overcoming obstacles and getting more out of your team, so the team can reach goals.

Blindspots

  • You can micromanage your team, limiting their potential for growth and creativity. This limits their ability to build their own foundation to build their influence and growth on.

  • You can be so focused on the goals and obstacles that you miss the humans you are leading. This lack of care can burn out and frustrate your team who may feel like cogs in a machine.

  • By consistently being the one who makes the calls, you can sometimes be vulnerable to criticism from others. Be willing to take feedback in a constructive manner and be a willing listener to others.

  • By consistently being the one who makes the calls, you may be obstructing others from making the calls themselves. Make sure to provide freedom to others to make calls and corrections so that they can grow while you provide supervision. Do not retain so much decision making power that you suffocate your other leaders.
